Saddleback Church and Purpose Driven Minister Rick Warren and his wife Kay met with CNN Piers Morgan for an in-depth, moving interview Sept 17, 2013 9pm (see commentary in Rick Warren email below). Major focuses were the suicide of son Matthew Warren, depression and mental illness. The Huffington Post has a series of articles on Matthew’s death.
This interview has the potential of reaching millions of viewers in a very touching, God-focused way.
The email below was sent out Sept. 17 2013 at 7:13pm on behalf of Rick Warren and read about 9:45pm. Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to get the word out in advance. We did watch about 15 minutes of a very moving interview.
It seems very unlikely that the interview will not be available on either the Saddleback website or on YouTube. We have searched www.saddleback.com and could find no reference to the interview.
As soon as more information is available, we will make sure that it is passed along.
Dear Saddleback Family,
Please share this information with others right now. Then, watch or record tonight’s program.
The Most Important Interview I’ve Ever Done
TONIGHT at 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. on CNN’s Piers Morgan Live
After teaching “Getting Through What You’re Going Through” for the past eight weeks, Kay and I felt it was time to grant the first media interview since Matthew’s death. We chose CNN’s Piers Morgan Live because it offered a full-hour for us to share our thoughts, rather than just short sound bites.
A HOLY MOMENT
What happened in yesterday’s taping surprised us all. Several members of the tech/camera crew were in tears, hugged us, and told us that their lives had been profoundly impacted by the experience. Piers Morgan was unusually sensitive to the moment, allowing us all the time we needed without interruption. At lunch, Piers shared that it was the most moving interview he’s ever done.
In kindness, the CNN team came to us, taping the interview at our Acts of Mercy family foundation office. In our conversation, we discussed:
The interview was raw and real. The CNN crew and our staff watched almost breathlessly. For an entire hour, you could’ve heard a pin drop, everyone was so riveted by what God was doing through the conversation.
Inviting your friends, neighbors, and coworkers to watch this interview tonight on CNN will be a great blessing to them, which I’m certain they will be grateful for. You will not regret urging others to watch this tonight.
SO I ask you to do three things this afternoon:
1. POST the note below on your social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) right now.If you use Instagram, copy the photo above, too.
2. EMAIL this note to your friends:
I thought you’d like to know that Pastor Rick Warren and his wife Kay are giving their first public interview since their son’s suicide. It’s tonight on CNN’s Piers Morgan Live.
Piers Morgan said it was the most moving interview he’s ever done. They discuss depression, raising a mentally ill child, guns, grief, God, faith, and hope. If you can’t watch it at 6:00 or 9:00 p.m., I hope you can record it.
3. While you watch the interview, tweet quotes and reactions using #WarrensOnCNN as a hash tag to encourage others to watch and to see what others are saying live.
Then pray that millions will watch and that many will come to faith in Christ as a result! ONE MORE FOR JESUS.
Dr. Rick Warren
